Through the juxtaposition of two milieus (which already have some points of overlap), Winiemko frames political protest as a performative spectacle and the assumption of the guise of a costumed hero as political. In this way, Winiemko’s work presages and illuminates the storming of the Washington Capitol by a costumed hoard of would-be “cospatriots.”
