EXchanges 2014 is part of Co.ERASGA’s artist in residence in partnership with The Dance Centre. This year, Asia’s origin, myth and culture comes to our annual EXchanges dance outreach program.

We call upon dancers to come discover, participate and learn in some of South Asia’s most revered dance forms under the guidance of each international master artist’s Pichet Klunchun and Didik Nini Thowok. Traditional and contemporary dance works collides and experience in the workshop aimed to break traditional forms and find new authentic physical expressions.

SCHEDULE | November 3 – 6, 2014

11:00 am – 2:00 pm
Work with Thailand’s Khon master dance artist Pichet Klunchun.

2:00pm – 5:00pm
Work with Indonesia’s master dance artist Didik Nini Thowok.

Pichet Klunchun bridges traditional Thai Classical Dance language with contemporary sensibility, while keeping the heart and wisdom of the convention. Pichet has earned domestic notoriety for his efforts in contemporising Khon. He has participated lately in several intercultural performing arts programs as a Thai representative and as an international dancer-choreographer in North America, Asia and Europe.

Didik Nini Thowok’s fame propelled him throughout Indonesia and abroad for his unique style, combining classical, folk, modern and comedic dance form. He is one of the few artists who continue the long tradition of “traditional Cross Gender” in the dance form.

This workshop is FREE (Maximum of 15 participants only!)
Requirements: Up to 2 years of basic dance training, emerging, mid-career and established dance artists are encourage to apply who can commit to the entire week of workshop.
