OUR ROOTS

We didn’t see it coming. But it came hard and it came fast. In 2008, our Border Collie/Lab-x Raven suffered acute and persistent bloody diarrhea and vomiting. We rushed her to emergency care where she stayed for 10 long days and nights. Her around-the-clock emergency care included IV feeding, two surgeries, 14 lbs in weight loss and a last ditch effort to love her back to life (the vet conceded and permitted my partner and me to take shifts staying with Raven in her kennel).

Slowly, Raven started to get her appetite back. Her strength followed. And then she was discharged, with a medley of pills to be taken around the clock. This included a new strict (limited ingredient) diet and a full year of cancer medication, steroids and testing, testing, testing. Raven recovered and we were driven to give her the nourishment and treats she could safely digest.

That’s what inspired us to create Beardog Cafe’s gingerbread for dogs and that’s how Beardog Cafe got its roots. The treats were made for Raven and our accidental was named after her paw-sibling, Beardog. Ten years later, we opened Beardog Cafe Pet Market in Lillooet BC, offering a selection of optimal pet nutrition, Ruffwear adventure gear for dogs, our fresh-baked dog treats (of course!) and the Beardog Gift Cafe (animal-inspired gifts for us two-legged creatures).

Beardog Cafe gingerbread and pumpkin-gingerbread for dogs are easy to digest, made without additives or preservatives and baked with human-grade ingredients:
