Winiemko’s practice is an exploration of the relationship of the personal to the public, of the construction of subjectivity in relation to the cultural framework — those “things we do” whether they be institutionalized to the idiosyncratic, which can be so commonplace that we often forget how they shape our lives, for better or worse. Winiemko fluidly moves between mediums, often taking on the role of performer both to use the figure the artist as a signifier of subjectivity and to perform those “things we do,” often in ways that subvert those practices or re-present them in the form of interruption or intervention.
